WHEN A TONSIL IS INFLAMED
A day of uncomfortable feeling. An inflamed tonsil is in the making in the glands of the throat. It causes pain in the act of swallowing. There will be hardship in putting the food down to the digestive system as if there is an obstruction along the way in the esophagus. There will be headache and soreness of the throat that will last longer even for many days. There will be tenderness in the jaw and throat causing changes in the voice to become muffled or throaty.
This soreness will be felt deeply in the morning. This inflammation was caused by viral infection not easy to treat as it will not respond to any antibiotic application.
The soreness is visible in the surface near the tongue in red and a swollen tissue. There will be grayish white or yellow patches on the tonsil. If it worsen, there will be fever and chills making the lymph nodes to swell. The soreness of the tissues due to bacterial or viral infection will result to bad breath. Common cold viruses lead to this inflammation that started to a sore throat.
It was transmitted through social contact from one person to another as droplets containing germs either bacterial or viral to the air out from sneezing. Streptococcus pyogenes (viral) an organism that cause sore throat, the beginning of an inflammation.
Other symptoms are nausea and vomiting, runny nose, redness of the eyes, pain in the ear near the tonsil area. There will be abdominal pain.
Most of this viruses (bacterial and viral) enter through the nose an mouth and confined in the tonsil area. When the white blood cells started attacking the bacteria or viruses, the body responded then an inflammation and the onset of fever occurred. The infection will spread further to the surrounding areas like the pharynx located at the back of the throat.
Mostly affected are preschooler to mid-teen years. Frequent exposure to germs may cause tonsillitis. The complication will result to hardship in breathing, infection that may cause pus production and disrupted breathing while sleeping.
If it become severe, it causes drooling, difficulty in breathing or painful to swallow foods. Going to the hospital is necessary. The swelling will blockage the breathing pathways and feeding tubes. This should be given immediate attention.
Reducing the discomfort may help by taking anti-inflammatory medicines but it will not immediately treat the inflammation. Any fever can be remedied by taking paracetamol. Water gargle mix with salt can help ease the pain of the sore throat and control further inflammation to the tissues. An inflamed throat block the airways causing hardship in breathing.
One way of preventing the germs to enter the body is by washing the hands frequently. Avoid prolong contact to a person who has sore throat.
